How It Works: The figure only is the measurement we describe online. The hook that we sell fits most traditional mantels which are 2" thick or less. In order for these solid brass stocking hangers to "work," the flat edge of the top of the hook where the figure sits needs to sit all the way back on the mantel top so that the hook itself drops down and returns slightly aft of the edge of the mantel. This allows the center of gravity to be aft of the edge and actually permits the hanger to support almost unlimited weight.

Hanging a stocking with our solid brass stocking hanger is simple and secure. Follow the steps below for proper placement and optimal performance.

1. Place the stocking hanger on a flat mantel surface.
Set the hanger fully back on the mantel so the flat top of the hook rests completely on the mantel surface.

2. Ensure the hanger is properly seated and stable.
The hanger should sit flush, with the curved portion dropping just behind the mantel edge. This positioning is essential to the hanger’s balance.

3. Hang the stocking gently on the hook.
Place the stocking loop over the hook, centering it so the weight distributes evenly.

4. Check alignment and balance.
The stocking should hang straight and close to the mantel edge without pulling forward.

5. Adjust if needed.
If the stocking appears tilted, slide the hanger slightly back so the flat edge rests fully on the mantel top.

6. Repeat for additional stockings.
Space hangers evenly for a balanced, harmonious mantel display.
