Key to the Bastille

Second to the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia as a symbol of freedom, the Key to the Bastille was presented to George Washington by the Marquis de Lafayette in 1790. The original "Key to the Fortress of Despotism" hangs in a glass case in the central hall of Mount Vernon, George Washington's plantation on the Potomac River. As an executive gift, paperweight or decorative accessory, the Key to the Bastille is an historic piece hand cast in solid brass as a remembrance of those ideals that have made our country great.
